Spring Birding
Nature & Outdoors
Spring bird migration is one of nature’s greatest annual events. Billions of migratory birds leave their wintering grounds and travel to their northern habitats for food and breeding. Some make a quick stop in New England before heading farther north, while others raise their young here. We will observe these migrating birds as spring progresses during our walks. Please wear appropriate shoes for walking, as some terrain may be uneven. *IMPORTANT: The locations for the guided walks will be announced one week before each walk, matching the migration status. The currently listed locations for each walk are educated guesses but may change. Tai Chi for Health
Exercise
The use of Chi (Qi) for cultivating physical, mental, and spiritual health has been studied and refined for thousands of years across many traditions, including Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taoist practices. These benefits are now also recognized by the Western health community. The goal of this course is to make these benefits easily accessible to everyone. This class is designed to serve both experienced practitioners and beginners. The evening begins with Qigong warmups, followed by multiple rounds of Cheng Man-ch’ing’s short form of Yang-style Tai Chi. Afterward, there is a wind-down with one round of Tai Chi for Liberation and quieting Qigong exercises. Each week, a training or review of a portion of each form is provided. This instruction helps new students learn the form quickly and offers a review for more experienced practitioners to refine their skills. Pat considers the memory, balance, social interaction and moving meditation aspects of these practices an investment in the quality of life for his retirement! To that end, he has committed to practicing Qi every day for the rest of his life, with the goal of dying healthy! Here is what they are saying about Pat's Tai Chi class: "It was at a level that a novice like me could feel comfortable at." "It was a very good introduction to Tai Chi, I knew nothing about the discipline." "Pat was very knowledgeable and patient." "I particularly liked in the beginning when he worked with everyone in the class individually to make sure we were doing key foundational moves correctly." "The class was very relaxed, with gentle instruction, and no pressure to conform to rigid guidelines of the Tai Chi forms. It was more of a do what you can and what works for you environment. Pat is a wonderful teacher, patiently explaining and demonstrating the forms, all the while interjecting some of the philosophy, science, traditions and energy movements of Tai Chi."

The Art of Wine Tasting
Food & Drink
Are you curious about the key aspects of the art of tasting wine? For a unique experience, join us for an evening of tasting and learning about some often-overlooked wines from regions around the world. We'll explore various types of wine, the appropriate glassware for each, the use of ice cubes or not, and how to match them with meals and cheese. Then, we'll learn and practice the basic steps of wine tasting: look, swirl, smell, taste, and savor. Together, we will uncover the unique flavor profiles of each wine—identifying the subtle notes of fruits, spices, and oak that make each bottle distinct. The wine list will feature a selection of locally available wines, including: Sémillon: A white wine grape variety with deep roots in the Bordeaux region of France and Australia. It is known for a unique, "waxy" texture and delicate notes of honey, citrus, and stone fruit. Rioja: A historic red blend from North-Central Spain. Traditionally shaped by a specific oak-aging process, it offers a bold profile of dark cherry, vanilla, and spice. Côtes-du-Rhône: A classic, sun-drenched regional blend from the Rhône Valley in Southern France. This wine is famously easy-drinking and fruit-forward, featuring raspberry and peppery herbal notes. Barbera d’Alba: A distinctive red from the Piedmont region of Northwest Italy. Loved for its bright acidity and juicy notes of dark cherry, it is often considered the ultimate food-pairing wine. As a special highlight, we may even sample a few select bottles from the instructor’s private collection to compare and contrast with our featured list. **Attendees should have food before arriving and drink responsibly. We will provide some snacks as well. You must be 21 years or older to attend this event.**
