The spoken word storytelling class incorporates the use of your five senses, the surrounding natural world, and the people you know to create a spoken word story, and the option to recite or perform it to the class.
The instructor will start by performing two original spoken word pieces to show what spoken word is and how it is written to be performed live in front of an audience. Students will explore and express their five senses, the natural world (such as the ocean, deserts, their own backyard, and neighborhood), and the people in their lives (like parents, uncles, aunts, teachers, mentors, and themselves). Then, students will create their own spoken word piece and share it with others through reading or performing.
The students will learn what makes a great performance: expression, eye contact, structured pauses, and VOLUME.
Please bring a water bottle, a nut-free snack, pen or pencil, and notebook.
