Join us for some French Sweets! We'll make snow-themed maple bonbons (candies in French) while learning a few French words, singing songs, reading stories, and playing games as French kids would! With the newly fallen New England snow (yes, we will pray for it), it's the best time to make these fun old-fashioned maple candies (bonbons) on snow! The kids will pack the snow firmly in shallow pans, and drizzle the syrup liquid onto the snow. Nothing is better than eating it immediately right out of the pan! How does this happen!? What makes the liquid thicken? Why do some run rather than harden? Why are some so hard and sticky? Join us for the answers and some sweet fun!
What if snow does not participate? We will make caramels au lait (caramel candy) and/or meringue cookies. Caramel au lait is a smooth caramel candy made of sugar, whipping cream, and butter. It can also be made into caramel milk ice! The French cloud-shaped meringue cookies are made of egg whites and sugar. The students will participate in making them from scratch and learn the chemistry behind them.
**Adults are welcome to stay and work with their child. This is not required.**
Please inform us of any food allergies.

I have had the pleasure of teaching French to students of all ages for over twenty years, having taught at Applewild School, Groton Community School, and other area schools. A fluent French speaker, I have lived in France, attended universities in France and Luxembourg (La Sorbonne, L’Université de Valenciennes and Sacred Heart du Centre Universitaire de Luxembourg), and worked as a translator for the government of Luxembourg, as well as having danced professionally in a modern dance troupe based in Metz, France. I’m a firm believer in the value of multilingualism and I am passionate about introducing people to French language and culture!
