Spring Cleaning: Declutter and Organize!
Home & Garden
An organized space encourages peace and creativity. Spring is the perfect time to declutter, reorganize, and let the energy of the season inspire us. Though we feel the urge, it can be daunting to transform your space on your own. In this one-hour workshop, we will set intentions for our organizational tasks, learn from some experts, and try some techniques. Whether you are downsizing your home, creating kid's spaces, or just hoping to live with less clutter, together we can kickstart your Spring Cleaning adventure. The class will cover the following topics: 1. Techniques for motivating yourself to begin decluttering and organizing. 2. Review the approaches of 4 New York Times bestselling authors. What are the similarities and differences between each approach? Which approach feels best to you? 3. Detail the steps of my Disassemble/Reassemble method. a. Choose where to organize first. b. Set out all items and decide what to keep, rehome, or trash. Decide how to rehome items. c. Organize items into proper places. 4. Try out some folding techniques, look through books and photos, and look at some storage options. 5. Make plans for maintaining your new systems. Additional references: 1. Kondo, Marie. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Translated by Cathy Hirano, Ten Speed Press, 2014. 2, Magnusson, Margarita. The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning. Scribner, 2018. 3. Murphy, Ashley, and Marissa Hagmeyer. The Neat Method Organizing Recipe Book. Artisan, 2025. 4. Shearer, Clea, and Joanna Teplin. The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your House Goals.
