Game Night for Twenty-Somethings
Join us at Prescott for an in-person meetup for twenty-somethings with a passion for gaming. In the online space, the ability to socially connect with others is slowly becoming more rare. Game Night is a chance for people to find a common connection. These games can range from board games, video games, card games, party games to anything that has that gaming spirit. Come hang out with other like-minded folks. Snacks will be provided for a fun evening of gameplay. Please bring a water bottle to keep the environment green.Feel free to bring games you would like to play! Any kind of games are welcome, be it board game, video game, or otherwise.GAME ON!**All proceeds benefit the Prescott Community Center.**

Beginner Knitting for Adults

In this Adult Beginner Knitting class, students will learn how to cast on, how to knit and purl, how to cast off, how to read and follow a simple pattern. Once comfortable, they can choose to make a basic scarf, a hat, a neck cowl, or a basket. Instructor will provide the patterns. Already taken this class? Come back and enjoy it again while continuing to strengthen your knitting skills. All materials will be provided by Sarah, the instructor, at a cost of approximately $12 (depending on your needs), payable directly to her at the first class.

Beginner Watercolor Painting

Learn the basics of watercolor painting in this beginner class. No experience necessary. This course will focus on getting comfortable with watercolor techniques and enjoying the process of painting. The basics of color mixing, value, composition and use of materials and tools will be covered. Through guided instruction and a step by step guided demonstration process, together we’ll paint simple landscape subjects. This will allow you to learn this wonderful medium in a fun and supportive environment. A material list will be supplied prior to the start of class. Are you struggling to capture shape, proportion, or perspective? Do you spend hours correcting mistakes, or have trouble seeing what's wrong with your work? In this class, we'll develop a fundamentals skillset for producing recognizable images and clear likenesses: drawing. You'll learn a set of simple techniques for quickly and accurately rendering form, no matter the medium. This will not only improve your drawing, but will also help improve your painting, sculpting, and visual thinking. This class is open to all levels. Student is required to bring materials. Glass Blowing - Make Your Own Beautiful Glass

Very cool and hot! Join us for a Glass Blowing class at New Temple Glassworks, newtempleglassworks.com, in Temple, New Hampshire in the beautiful Monadnock region (approximately 40 minutes from Groton). Up to 8 people for this group lesson. The New Temple Glassworks offers the following classes: Blow your own glass ornament – $40 Make your own glass flower – $40 Make your own glass paperweight – $65 Blow your own glass pumpkin – $65 Blow your own drinking glass – $65 Blow your own vase – $95 **A $20 registration fee is added on at time of payment. The item you register to make is the item you will make during the glass blowing class. You are only allowed to make one item during the two-hour class.** All classes include instruction, assistance, tools, color, and safety equipment. Please note that anything made in the hot shop must be annealed (cooled slowly) before it can be picked up or shipped. All the work will be delivered to the Prescott Community Center for pickup. Prescott will notify you when your class item is ready for pick up. During the lesson, you will be working in a fast-paced, hot environment, so dress appropriately. Please wear cotton or other non-flammable cloth (i.e. avoid synthetic material, fringe, etc.) Closed-toe shoes only. Students must be 12 years of age or older. Students under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. In this workshop, you’ll design and create your own stunning fall wreath using a grapevine base and a variety of seasonal elements. With all supplies provided, you’ll learn how to arrange decorations in a balanced, beautiful way to make a 16-inch wreath perfect for indoor or outdoor display. Intro to Machine Sewing

Maybe you are rusty and need a refresher, maybe you have a machine and you’ve never used it. Maybe you have ideas for things to make but you need a little help. Bring your sewing machine with you and get the support you need to feel comfortable working on your own. Learn to thread your machine and change the bobbin with confidence. Over the course of this class you will have a choice of projects where you can learn to make a fabric coaster/placemat, drawstring bag, fabric bowl, and zippered pouch. Students must bring their own sewing machines, fabric, coordinating thread, pins, scissors, and a zipper for your pouch. Claudia will bring batting for the projects. Oil Painting for All Levels

In the classroom, we will create oil paintings from your favorite still life and landscape photos. We will explore composition, underpainting, perspectives, color mixing, color harmony, and paint application. The instructor will provide a demonstration at the beginning of every class and instruction throughout. This class emphasizes creativity, exploration, and experimentation rather than technique. While composition, color mixing, perspective, and mark-making will all be considered, learning technique is a by-product of the joyful creation of art. All participants will enjoy the freedom of experimenting with mixed media and surfaces and approaching the edge of abstraction in a friendly, supportive environment. Painting from Life: Acrylics for Beginners

Step outside the studio and paint directly from the source. Working directly from the subject adds an urgency and liveliness that cannot be captured when painting from photo. Through a combination of plein air and still life practice, we will learn to break down visual information, even as the subject or lighting changes. We will work quickly, developing a body of studies across the weeks together. Ultimately, you will develop the skillset you need to paint whenever and however you like. Though designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced students will also benefit from the emphasis on speed, clear decision-making, and acrylic medium usage. In this class, you'll learn how to use these settings to improve your photos, whether you're shooting on the go or at home. We’ll cover the best settings for video, slow-motion, and cinematic formats, and utilize optical and digital zoom, as well as features like flash, time-lapse, slow-motion, cinematic, portrait, resolution, and more that you can adjust on your phone. Plein Air Painting: Groton & Surrounding Towns
Workshops
Join the artists who love to paint outside! Whether you are a watercolor artist, pastelist, oil painter, or just want to work in your sketchbook, these plein air painting workshops are for you. Prescott teacher, Heather Barros, will be on hand to demonstrate and guide. Group interaction is encouraged! You may paint for as long or as short a time as you want. Plein Air Locations: Monday, Sep 8, 2:00-4:30 PM - Shirley Center Common, Shirley, MA 01464 Monday, Oct 6, 2:00-4:30 PM - The Groton Center, 163 West Main Street, Groton, MA 01450 Monday, Nov 3, 1:00-3:30 PM - Fruitlands Museum, 102 Prospect Hill Rd, Harvard, MA 01451 Please bring whatever art materials that you would like to work with. Standing easels are nice to have, but you are welcome to sit with a sketchbook or board on your lap. A folding chair can be useful, and wet wipes can be handy, along with a plastic bag to carry out trash. Taking a photo, video, or snapping a selfie has never been easier with your smartphone nearby. This class teaches you how to turn your ordinary snapshots into great photos! We'll discuss the rules of composition for landscapes, portraits, and actions, as well as how to utilize light and expand your vision beyond the apparent first shot. We'll look at examples of well-made images, discuss their uniqueness, and how to use this information to improve your photographic skills.
