Girls in STEM - Grades 5-8

Children's Programs / STEM/STEAM -
Prescott CC - 2026 PROGRAM CATALOG

This workshop introduces middle school girls to STEM through hands-on activities that inspire creativity, problem-solving, and confidence. Students will take part in engineering challenges such as building popsicle-stick bridges to explore structural design, weight distribution, and teamwork, as well as designing paper towers to practice planning and creativity. They will also try beginner coding activities and logic puzzles to learn the basics of programming, develop computational thinking, and see how technology can solve real-world problems. In addition, students will experiment with simple circuits using batteries and LEDs to understand electricity and circuits in a fun, interactive way. Team-based challenges and collaborative problem-solving activities will promote communication, leadership, and creative thinking. Short discussions and interactive activities will showcase real women in STEM careers, helping students connect the skills they are learning to exciting opportunities in engineering, computer science, architecture, and technology. No prior experience is required; students simply need curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and a desire to work with others. By the end of the workshop, participants will gain practical STEM skills, enjoy hands-on learning, and build confidence to explore STEM in school and beyond.

All activities are beginner-friendly and hands-on, including bridge-building, coding, circuits, and design challenges. Students should wear comfortable clothing and handle materials safely. Instructors will provide shared materials. Sessions feature teamwork, problem-solving, and brief discussions on STEM careers and women in STEM.

**All proceeds benefit the Prescott Community Center.**

Delilah Dias

I am a student at Groton-Dunstable Regional High School with a strong interest in engineering and STEM education. I plan to study civil or architectural engineering and want to encourage more girls to explore STEM fields with confidence. I enjoy leading hands-on activities such as paper tower and bridge-building challenges, simple circuitry, beginner coding, and problem-solving games that connect STEM to real-world jobs. I have experience with youth programs and volunteering, and I am passionate about creating a fun and supportive learning environment.
