Nibi, the celebrity beaver, was rescued in 2022 after being found alone on the side of the road as a one-week-old. The state later determined that Nibi was healthy and should be released. Petitions, social media outcries, and court battles ensued to keep her safe in rehab. The story was reported by The New York Times, The Washington Post, “Today Show,” the BBC, and beyond. Finally, with the intervention of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, Nibi was granted a permit to stay with Newhouse as an educational ambassador.
