Step outside the studio and paint directly from the source. Working directly from the subject adds an urgency and liveliness that cannot be captured when painting from photo. Through a combination of plein air and still life practice, we will learn to break down visual information, even as the subject or lighting changes. We will work quickly, developing a body of studies across the weeks together. Ultimately, you will develop the skillset you need to paint whenever and however you like.
Though designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced students will also benefit from the emphasis on speed, clear decision-making, and acrylic medium usage.
Students are required to bring materials. A material list will be sent in your class confirmation email.
Here is what they are saying about Abigail's Class:
"Everything! Great class and instructor. Learned about all aspects of art from color mixing to perspective."
"Friendly, talented instructor."
Abigail Williams is a self-taught artist whose work spans both 2D and 3D media—from acrylic, watercolor, and oil, to enamel, printmaking, and woodcarving. Since 2016, Abigail has displayed throughout the New England area in venues from public events and galleries to private collections. She has instructed others in the visual arts since 2015, and as an instructor puts emphasis on accuracy and speed. It is her goal to help students develop a consistent practice that they can expand on outside of class.
In a range of work from life drawings and plein air painting to woven baskets, wood carvings, and enameling, Abigail Williams explores the balance between conceptual understanding and creative storytelling: tracing the boundaries of accuracy and efficiency, detail and implication, function and tradition. Her most recognizable works are her nude gesture drawings in graphite and charcoal.
