He had a great sense of humor and rapport with the audience. Loved the stories that he shared with the audience. I learned so much. He helped out attendees to make margaritas and brought many different kinds of ingredients for the audience to try. The food was also extremely good. I highly recommend this class." "The instructor was great! Super knowledgeable and gave really excellent instruction. I also like the hands-on nature of the class, where he let each of us practice the process he taught us - that really makes it stick!" "Very personable. Excellent knowledge of the science of the drink. Responded to questions very well. Gentle Yoga & Guided Relaxation
Yoga
Guided relaxation (also known as Yoga Nidra) is a systematic method of guided relaxation that has a profound effect on the body, mind and emotions. During the practice, you are guided through various stages of deeper relaxation, allowing the mind to become more relaxed and more receptive. The practice can help release physical tension, reduce mental and emotional stress, increase creativity, aid in memory retention, help us to have a better night sleep, and have better overall wellbeing. Class starts with 20-25 minutes of gentle yoga to allow your body to prepare for the relaxation and loosen stiff muscles from sitting at a desk all day. Then you will lay down on your mat and be guided through the systematic guided relaxation. All you have to do is listen to the guided meditation and find yourself relaxing and maybe even falling asleep. Guided relaxation is a wonderful practice that anyone can do. It leaves the student feeling rested, relaxed, less stressed and many students have reported having a great nights sleep after practicing this yoga technique. Students should have a blanket, pillows/bolsters and blocks to assist them in their yoga. Class takes place over Zoom. The link will be sent in the registration confirmation email.

Indian Street Food
History & Culture
Indians celebrate festivities in splendor. Indian festivals are full of colors to remove the bad and retain the good! Beyond the extravaganza, rich cultural and scientific values are embedded in everything from dawn to dusk. Divya and Padma will introduce us to environmentally friendly cooking using banana leaves! Join us to learn about Indian Culture and enjoy some street food. Here are some popular Indian street foods we are teaching in our class: Bhel Puri is a delightful mixture of puffed rice, chopped vegetables like onions, tomatoes, and boiled potatoes, cucumber mixed with tangy tamarind chutney and spicy green chutney, garnished with sev (crispy chickpea noodles). Pakoras also known as pakodas, are a popular Indian snack enjoyed across the country, especially during the monsoon season. These delicious fritters are made by dipping various ingredients like onion, spinach, and plantains in a spiced chickpea flour batter and deep-frying them until golden and crispy. Pakoras are typically served hot and crispy, often accompanied by chutneys like mint or tamarind chutney and a cup of hot masala chai. Masala Chai is a cozy beverage on a chilly day. Its warming spices and creamy texture make it a beloved drink in Indian households and beyond. Overall, the class will also share the experience of eating using a plantain leaf which adds an element of cultural richness and sustainability to the dining experience. It also encourages a closer connection with nature and an appreciation for traditional customs. This is a family class. Only Adults will be cooking as it involves frying and cutting. Kids are welcome to participate with the help of an adult. Moth Night!
Nature & Outdoors
On a typical night in late Spring, there could be anywhere from 50 to 150 species of moths plus maybe another 50 other insects such as beetles, flies, leafhoppers, and more in Tom's yard. Tom Murray, author of "Insects of New England and New York", will set up two moth sheets lit with mercury vapor lights to observe whatever moths and other insects come to visit that night. Weather plays an important role in how many bugs show up. A warm humid calm night is best. The moth night starts when it gets dark and can end at midnight or later. Participants can park at the Groton Center and the viewing will take place in the backyard of Instructor's residence.

Nordic Walking
Exercise
We will be walking with unique Nordic poles on our beautiful local trails. This creative walking technique originated in Norway and is now very popular across Europe. It boosts your cardio, plus the benefit of providing a full-body strength workout using 85 to 90% of the muscles you activate. The special poles are adjustable, shorter than ski or trekking poles, and secured with hand straps that allow you to propel forward. The poles and hand straps are helpful for stability and preventing falls. So anyone can do this! The unique walking technique requires a small learning curve that I will spend the time teaching to everyone. The instructor will hold a training class at the beginning of each session. Below are the trails for each week where we will meet. April 9: J. Harry Rich Trail April 23: The Throne April 30: Groton Town Forest - Dead River Rd, Ames Pond Rd May 7: Fitch's Bridge Ice Line Trail May 14: Sawtell Conservation area May 21: Indian Rock Trail ** CLASS REQUIREMENT: It is required that you purchase a set of Nordic Walking poles. I suggest poles that are adjustable for height as this is key for optimal setup. Some adjust in three parts and I don't recommend them. Just a simple adjustment in the middle is good. I bought mine on Amazon and did NOT spend top dollar on them! The brand I have is FIZAN, but any that you can find that suit your budget is fine. Our first class will require you to have them in hand so we can get adjusted and learn how to use them before a trail trip. **
