Abigail Williams

Abigail Williams studied Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages at UMass Amherst, earning two B.A.s in Linguistics and East Asian Languages and Arts and a minor in Chinese. She has lived abroad in full language immersion contexts and has spent the years since bringing those language skills back to New England in a variety of teaching environments for all ages. She loves nothing more than seeing students begin to think and speak in new languages.

After 6 months of intensive Chinese (Mandarin, simplified) language immersion in northeastern China, Abigail wrote and presented her thesis “Chinese Characters: A delicate balance between efficiency and depth of meaning” on the evolution of the Chinese character system. She has since returned to New England to interpret, translate, instruct, and share her love of East Asian Languages. Abigail has also enjoyed over 10 years of study into brush-and-ink calligraphy, blending her knowledge of East Asian writing systems with her love of the visual arts.
