Babysitting 101 - Ages 11-15
Perfect for ages 11–15, this hands-on class teaches you how to confidently care for infants and children when parents are not present. You’ll discover how to plan fun, age-appropriate activities, manage challenging behaviors, handle emergencies, provide basic first aid, and even kickstart your own babysitting business. This event is brought to you by Destination Groton. Join us for a special event with local historian and author Donald Ryan, who will be signing copies of his new book, Colonel William Prescott: Heroic Commander of the Battle of Bunker Hill. This engaging biography highlights one of Groton’s most celebrated figures and his pivotal role in the Revolutionary War. The event will include a discussion with the author followed by a book signing. Ten attendees will receive a free copy of the book — don’t miss this opportunity to explore our local history and meet the author. Repair Café Groton
Community
Prescott Community Center is excited to host its first-ever Repair Café! Bring your broken items—shirts missing buttons, lamps with faulty switches, necklaces with lost clasps, or small appliances—and our skilled local volunteers will help repair them on the spot. At the Repair Café, volunteers with expertise in clothes, furniture, electronics, toys, and more will guide you in bringing new life to your items. This hands-on approach not only teaches valuable skills but also helps reduce waste, save money, and promote a culture of care. Fixers Can Fix: Lamps Small appliances: such as coffee makers, toasters, mixers, and other similar gadgets Small furniture Minor upholstery, like seats and stools Toys Jewelry Bikes Sewing/Needle Work Mending knitted sweaters Give old clothes a new life Replace Buttons Fixing seams in clothes & quilts Small electronic devices: such as table fans, sewing machines, and other similar appliances Minor engine repairs like push mowers, small boat motors, etc Flashlight Computer, laptops, mobile phones, tablets Restoration of an oil painting with chipped paint Clock Repair Cafés make a real difference: minimize unnecessary purchases conserve raw materials and energy reduce CO₂ emissions support a sustainable, environmentally conscious community **This is a FREE Event open to the public.** There will be snacks and beverages available for purchase while you wait, along with a few fun activities to keep children entertained as your items are being repaired. This Community Event's success depends on your participation! We welcome volunteers with various skills to be fixers and volunteers to help support the event.
