Gentle Yoga for Healing: Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation
Yoga
This course is great for those who are recovering from an injury, or want to focus on injury prevention. We will focus on a combination of mobility, strength, and flexibility in the different joints in our bodies, to create more durability and resilience. This is a slow paced class, and great for those new to yoga, or those who want a gentle yet intentional class. Please bring a yoga mat to class. What participants are saying about yoga with Emma: "Emma is a great yoga instructor. She changes up the class to fit our needs but is always pushing us to be better." "Good structure and knowledgeable instructor." "The level of “effort” was perfect for me at this point in my life. I have not been active and this class, along with some other at home exercises, has helped to ease me towards my goal of becoming more active while also focusing on correct form and deliberate movements that address my body’s needs during the aging process." "Emma is a very intuitive teacher, who always keeps the class upbeat." "The wonderful instructor, Emma! Her gentleness and patience really helped me get back into yoga after many years." "The in person assistance with the postures and exercises. The ability of the instructor to observe the movements and poses and provide hands on correction of the positions as needed. I also appreciated the combination of exercises with use of bolsters as needed for stretching and supporting certain parts of the body. Relaxing into these positions using body weight gently is important."

Tai Chi for Health
Exercise
The use of Chi (Qi) for cultivating physical, mental, and spiritual health has been studied and refined for thousands of years across many traditions, including Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taoist practices. These benefits are now also recognized by the Western health community. The goal of this course is to make these benefits easily accessible to everyone. This class is designed to serve both experienced practitioners and beginners. The evening begins with Qigong warmups, followed by multiple rounds of Cheng Man-ch’ing’s short form of Yang-style Tai Chi. Afterward, there is a wind-down with one round of Tai Chi for Liberation and quieting Qigong exercises. Each week, a training or review of a portion of each form is provided. This instruction helps new students learn the form quickly and offers a review for more experienced practitioners to refine their skills. Pat considers the memory, balance, social interaction and moving meditation aspects of these practices an investment in the quality of life for his retirement!
