A World of Teas
Food & Drink
Learn how to brew the perfect cup of tea, while sampling 7 to 8 fine, loose-leaf teas, with sweet and savory snacks to complement them. Tea has played a major role in the history of the world, influencing trade and trade routes, arts and crafts, cultural habits, and social movements. Discovered in China, the tea plant (camellia sinensis) traveled to Japan, Nepal, India, Ceylon, the Middle East, Western Europe, and, finally, the Americas. Like wines, there are hundreds of kinds of tea, with different qualities, depending on the varietal, climate, soil, and processing methods. We’ll sample a variety of teas—black, oolong, green, and others--from China, India, Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Taiwan, and other great producers. We’ll also discuss the fascinating history of this “elixir from the East.” Feel free to bring one or two of your favorite tea cups or mugs. Class $20 | Material fee $5

Sculpting With Natural and Found Materials
Crafts
Learn to make 3-D works of art, including coming up with a design, assembling and joining materials, and mounting and finishing them. Bring in some favorite household objects, “curiosities,” or natural materials such as pieces of wood, seed pods, or colorful stones, and assemble them into evocative and durable sculptures. A group of natural materials assembled within a handsome wooden picture frame might become a “forestscape” relief. Garden sculptures are also possible. The instructor will bring in many tools, adhesives, and some sample materials, discuss the design process, and reveal tricks of the trade. Feel free to bring in your own favorite tools. You can work either with guidance or independently. This two-session class should give you some basic skills for working in your own space at your own pace. Students are required to bring some materials. The Instructor will provide the rest. Class $60 | Material fee $5
