Visible Mending

Adult & Family Programs / Fine Arts & Crafts / Workshops -
Prescott CC - 2024 PROGRAM CATALOG

In this workshop, we will learn the art of Visible Mending! In a movement against throw away culture and fast fashion, learn how to pick up a needle and rediscover forgotten techniques and the joy of mending.

Visible Mending encourages you to:

  • Be less wasteful
  • Make your clothing unique, personalized and reflect your style
  • Repair, repurpose, reuse and renew the clothes you love

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn embroidery stitches (such as running, chain and whip stitch), darning, patching and Sashiko (a form of decorative reinforcement stitching or functional embroidery from Japan) to mend your clothes and turn them into unique works of art.
  • Reinforce ripped, torn, damaged areas with decorative stitches
  • Demystify mending techniques and discover how these can be easily applied to old items to give them a fresh look
  • Gather inspiration from each other as we learn and mend together!
