Guided relaxation (also known as Yoga Nidra) is a systematic method of guided relaxation that has a profound effect on the body, mind and emotions. During the practice, you are guided through various stages of deeper relaxation, allowing the mind to become more relaxed and more receptive.

The practice can help release physical tension, reduce mental and emotional stress, increase creativity, aid in memory retention, help us to have a better night sleep, and have better overall wellbeing.

Class starts with 20-25 minutes of gentle yoga to allow your body to prepare for the relaxation and loosen stiff muscles from sitting at a desk all day. Then you will lay down on your mat and be guided through the systematic guided relaxation. All you have to do is listen to the guided meditation and find yourself relaxing and maybe even falling asleep.

Guided relaxation is a wonderful practice that anyone can do. It leaves the student feeling rested, relaxed, less stressed and many students have reported having a great nights sleep after practicing this yoga technique.

Students should have a blanket, pillows/bolsters and blocks to assist them in their yoga. Class takes place over Zoom. The link will be sent in the registration confirmation email.

My name is Rachael and I have been practicing yoga for 23 years. I discovered yoga in college after a friend dragged me to the gym one day for a yoga class. I had no idea what I was doing but was instantly hooked. I loved how yoga quieted my mind, which to this day is almost always on the go go go, like the energizer bunny! Over the years I have turned to yoga during times of heartbreak, stress, and when I was just overwhelmed or overworked. It has always been my calm after the storm. 

My goal is to bring yoga to adults who are overworked, overwhelmed and/or stressed, so they can shut off the internal negative self talk and be more mindful and relaxed. There are so many health and wellness benefits to having a yoga practice and cost shouldn’t be what prevents people from practicing. Especially with stressful and overwhelming times like these; times when we all could use some Zen.

If you find yourself stressed, overworked or overwhelmed, I would love to help you find that inner Zen that I find each day that I come to my mat. Whether it’s through yoga, or a meditation practice, there is a way to tap into that Zen, and bring peace and tranquility to your life and mind.
