Media Production Summer - Ages 9-13

Children's Programs / Summer Fun Programs -
Prescott CC - 2024 PROGRAM CATALOG

Spend your vacation exploring a variety of options in media production which includes working with video, sound, music, and photography! Working in small groups, students will learn the basics of visual storytelling through activities that explore both theory and practice. Activities include games such as visual dominoes and practical exercises such as video, audio, or photo scavenger hunts. Students will be provided with a range of options to create a presentation of their group's choice and collaborate in story development from planning, rehearsal, and recording. They will pull it all together by editing and fine tuning their work to have a finished product to share and critique with their classmates.

The class content will include:

1. Producing a written story on a topic of the students' choice
2. Creating a storyboard, shot list, or shooting script (Pre-production)
3. Using video or photography to act out their stories; or creating a "How To" presentation that teaches a skill
4. Learning the basics of visual composition and film theory through demonstration and activities that include photography, video, and sound recording
5. Editing: Pulling it all together and making a finished product
6. Sharing their work with the class and participate in positive critique and feedback

Students will need to have access to a smartphone, tablet, or video camera that they can bring to class and work with at home.
